Climate Week NYC issue · Blue carbon edition · Week of 21 September 2026

138 projects, 58 in pipeline, and the methodology that decides them is open for comment until 5 October.

Mangroves, tidal wetlands and seagrass across 39 countries. Small in count, large in attention: this is the edition where a single relisting in Cambodia, a methodology revision at Verra and a $6 billion ADB envelope all landed in the same week.

Why Blue carbon, this week

Krasop Blue Carbon came back onto Verra under a new proponent with VM0033 in its stack. Verra's VM0033 v3.0 revision, with a dynamic performance benchmark that changes the crediting maths for fishpond restoration, closes for comment on 5 October. ADB launched a $6 billion ASEAN Blue Economy Initiative with no carbon language yet, Vietnam's blue carbon board set six priority areas, and Madagascar's NDC named blue carbon for Article 6 authorisation.

Krasop Blue Carbon relists on Verra under a new proponent, with VM0033 in the stack

Project 5584, removed from the export last week, is back as a pipeline listing under validation: Climate+ Pte Ltd, EPIC Sustainability as validator, 562,198 t/yr.

Why it matters. A delisting followed by a relisting is how a project changes hands without a press release. Read the deep dive.

3 Sep · Verra

VM0033 v3.0 tidal wetland and seagrass methodology open for comment until 5 October

Modular structure, a dynamic performance benchmark, revised leakage, four new modules.

Why it matters. The dynamic benchmark changes the crediting maths for every fishpond and mangrove restoration project. Eleven days left.

19 Sep · ADB

ADB launches a $6 billion ASEAN Blue Economy Initiative in Manila

Fisheries, coastal resilience and marine pollution, 2026–2030, part of a $30 billion ASEAN pledge. The release does not mention carbon.

Why it matters. The money is aimed at the coasts where blue carbon projects sit. That the release has no carbon language is a gap to raise, not a signal.

24 Sep · Vietnam News

Vietnam's blue carbon board sets six priority areas and opens investor dialogue

Draft National Blue Carbon Action Roadmap 2026–2030; no Article 6 detail yet.

Why it matters. Vietnam is an eligible supplier to Singapore's tender and is building the domestic pipeline to match.

18 Sep · DGB Group roundup

Madagascar's updated NDC names blue carbon among Article 6 priority sectors

Forests, energy efficiency, climate-smart agriculture, waste and blue carbon.

Why it matters. A written list of what a host will authorise, with blue carbon on it.
