Climate Week NYC issue · Rice & AWD edition · Week of 21 September 2026

440 projects, 107 in pipeline, and the largest removal buyer just bought a million tonnes of rice methane.

Alternate wetting and drying, methane-reducing rice, and the soil and agriculture projects that sit beside them. Google's Terradot deal made rice the template for stacking avoidance with durable removal on the same land.

Why Rice & AWD, this week

Google will buy one million tonnes of methane impact from alternate wetting and drying on 200,000 hectares of Brazilian rice land by 2030, stacked with enhanced-weathering removals. Isometric now carries a Rice Methane Reduction protocol. The UN's Article 6.4 panel is moving agricultural methods toward direct measurement. Rice is where methane avoidance meets the removal label, and where the price of a survey-based credit is falling.
